A 1950 Macallan bottled as a 58-year-old from a pair of sherry casks by Gordon & MacPhail under their Speymalt label, this is an astonishing whisky and, as of 2022, it’s still the last 1950 vintage Macallan that G&M have bottled.
This Speymalt Macallan 1950 is one of these ancient Speysiders that somehow seems to combine everything that is magical about these old drams.
The palate shows exuberant, intense fruitiness with a myriad of different spices, sweetness and dryness in turns, touches of ancient peat smoke and all kinds of medical complexities, rancio, natural tar, smoke, numerous herbal notes, liqueurs, citrus oils, gamey notes and an immensely long finish. A true masterpiece.
