A marvellous old official bottling Macallan 1976 18-year-old Speyside single malt whisky released at 43% in 1995 towards the tail end of the distillery’s classic period. This was a special edition bottled for the Bank of Scotland and features the bank’s logo on the label on either side of the vintage statement.

These old mid-1970s Macallan vintages were all glorious drams, rich in classic sherried Christmas cake flavours and redolent of herbal liqueurs and exotic woods, with a density and complexity that owed much to the otherworldly sherry casks available at the time, many of which were treated with paxarette, which was still permitted in those days. A stupendous Macallan from a bygone era.
