An old bottle of Ardmore 25-year-old released in 2008 at its impressively chunky natural cask strength of 51.4%. A delightfully full-on Ardmore with a nice fruity, lemon-honey palate, sooty phenols and a spicy, smoky finish.
Ardmore was something of a connoisseur’s secret back in the days before the Jim Beam takeover in 2005, with official bottlings few and far between. The first appearance of Ardmore Traditional Cask in 2007 signalled Beam’s intention to give the distillery a mainstream presence; this 25-year-old and a sister 30-year-old were launched in 2008, and showed that Ardmore was a serious distillery to be reckoned with.
