The 2018 release of Benriach 10-year-old Curiositas, the old edition of Benriach’s peated single malt whisky which has now been superseded by the distillery’s 2020 release of Smoky Ten.
Generally peated to around 35-40ppm, and matured in a combination of ex-bourbon, virgin oak and rum casks, Benriach Curiositas offers a more rustic, farmy take on peated distillate than one would expect from its Islay counterparts. Without the boisterously coastal nature of Islay whiskies Curiositas is more about earthy, rooty peat, oily, metallic phenols and gentle medicinal tones. Complex, satisfying and unique.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Honey Gold.
Nose: Campfire smoke, with orchard honey, fresh apple and mellow oak wood.
Taste: Smoked apple wood and honey-roast sugar maple.
Finish: Smoked pine nuts and lingering spice.
