Mossburn Distillers bottle single vintage small batch single malt whiskies from good but unfashionable distilleries, with this Glenrothes 2007 11-year-old, bottled in 2019 at 46%, a case in point.

Glenrothes is very much the knackered old nag in Edrington’s stable of thoroughbreds, languishing in the shadows as Macallan and Highland Park get all the love and marketing spend lavished on them. But it’s a great Speyside distillery in its own right, and we’d wager that Mossburn have unearthed a little treasure here. It’s great to see a hogshead Glenrothes too, as so much of the spirit is filled to sherry casks.
