Of course, we can’t be sure how much of the character in these whiskies today has come from bottle ageing, and naturally there’s a lot of variation between one bottle and another after decades – but what’s certain is that the best blended whiskies like Haig’s Dimple were the super-premium products of their day and had a much greater malt content than today’s whiskies.
