A 1950 MacPhail’s bottled at 36 years of age. These full sherry matured old Gordon & MacPhail bottlings are usually pretty impeccable drams and offer a wonderful glimpse into just how sublime the old-style malts of the 40s and 50s could be.
This particular example shows a wonderful knife-edge balance between the resinous, waxy, phenolic style of the late 1940s and the more sumptuously fruity, earthy style of the 1950s.
A stunning dram.
