A complex and intriguing bottling from Islay’s lost distillery, Port Ellen. The 12th Special Release is slightly sweeter than recent expressions, it is wonderfully clean and fresh for its age. The nose develops from delicate to dense: smoke barley scented becomes well defined; honeyed cereal noted evolve into sugar-sweet, juicy orange. Full-bodied to drink, with a rich fruity smoky-sweetness, smooth dark chocolate and more exquisite smoke, which lingers fragrantly on the compact and silky-smooth finish.
