There’s been plenty of long-aged whiskies released recently and the Tamdhu 50-year-old is a very exciting entry.

Let’s not get too distracted by the impressive packaging and the fact there’s a hidden sample built inside the base of the box which has been tempting us for a wee whiff. The liquid itself is immense, it’s been drawn from a single First Fill European Sherry Butt and is lavishly seductive.

This masterpiece has been bottled to mark their 120th anniversary and is the oldest whisky to ever come out of the distillery.

Tasting Notes

Official notes suggest forest fruits, elegant oak & orange depths on the nose – with underlying rosehip, dark chocolate & marzipan.

Wow, this is right up our street. The palate; cloves, liquorice, espresso & baked apples the uniquely complex palate also reveals banana, black pepper & roasted almonds.

That samples looking a victim right now! Finally the finish; ginger, cocoa, walnuts & maple syrup linger long through the finish.
