An old bottle of Old Vatted Demerara (O.V.D.) rum, bottled at some point in the 1980s. OVD and owner George Morton Ltd have been owned by William Grant’s since 2002, after the latter acquired them during the breakup of the Seagram drinks empire.

Old Vatted Demerara is one of several old rum brands originally created, blended and bottled by British merchants in the 19th century using rum imported from Britain’s colonial territories (in this case Guyana). Many of these brands were based in Scotland, and Old Vatted Demerara is no exception – the brand was originally created by George Morton Ltd in Dundee in 1838 and remains extremely popular in Scotland.
