This is a slightly more potent but noticeably more rugged, earthy rye, balanced with a very pleasant leafiness, spice and a herby menthol note running through adding complexity. A delicious drop for rye whiskey fans.

Tasting Notes

Nose: A fruit-forward nose with raisins, currants, dried plums and blackberries. The woody aromas follow: varnish, glue, fresh cardamom and vanilla pods. Develops moss and bark aromas with time in the glass.
Palate: Sweet and earthy off the bat, then becomes very leafy – more herbaceous than the nose suggested. The dried fruits from the nose are there, with pine resin, playdoh and furniture polish notes.
Finish: Long, warming and peppery with a faint herby menthol tingle at the end.
Comments: More robust than the sister cask, this is perhaps less subtle but bursting with character and flavour.
