One of the jewels in the crown of Elixir Distillers’ Port Askaig range of mystery Islay single malts, Port Askaig 28-year-old is a top class dram from a small parcel of refill American hogsheads bottled at Port Askaig’s traditional 45.8% (the old 80-proof).

Port Askaig’s Islay single malts are reliably top-drawer and even the more expensive ones are terrific value for what’s in the bottle (even if we can’t confirm or deny exactly which distillery it’s from). Port Askaig 28-year-old’s long ageing has tamed the peatsmoke and led to the development of some splendid tropical fruit notes – this is a star.
