This limited edition Port Ellen 1983 32-year-old Islay single malt whisky was bottled in 2015 at cask strength for owners Diageo’s Special Releases.

This Special Releases 32-year-old Port Ellen was bottled from refill European oak and was an edition of 2964 bottles at its natural cask strength of 53.9% and was the first Port Ellen Special Release not from the 1978 or 1979 vintages, which led many to speculate that Diageo must have finally run out of Port Ellen and that the stock had been sourced from Douglas Laing.

Whatever the truth of the matter, the 15th Release was an atypical Port Ellen in the Special Releases series at the time of release and is a remarkably oily, tobacco-tinged, meaty Port Ellen – dubbed ‘Port Ellen in a leather coat’ by legendary ambassador Colin Dunn – that still retains the classic lemony, flinty, austere edge.
