The 2022 edition of Talisker 18-year-old, so this would have been distilled around the same time the first bottlings of this iconic dram were released, back in 2004.
Much has changed in the intervening 18 years, but Talisker still retains its winning combination of soot, pepper, seaweed and sweetness, even if the distillery’s overall spirit profile has mellowed somewhat from its heyday.
We’d love to taste this 2022 Talisker 18-year-old against its 2004 counterpart, no doubt it would make for a fascinating contrast.

Appearance: Amber.
Body: Full bodied, pleasant and smooth.
Nose: Rich and fruity Victoria plums, greengages, perhaps dried orange peel with some butterscotch or rum toffee and a thread of smoke behind.
Palate: Sweet in front, then more assertive, with a whiff of smoke. The overall effect is warming. The development is towards smoke, coal-tar, and toffee. Intense layers of fruitiness and peat.
Finish: Medium length and chilli ‘catch’ in the finish.
