A small batch Filey Bay STR Finish Batch 4 English single malt whisky from the splendid Spirit of Yorkshire distillery. STR is an acronym referring to Shaving, Toasting, Recharring – a modern technique of cask rejuvenation whose widespread adoption (particularly by the wave of new distilleries) is credited to the late, great whisky consultant Dr. Jim Swan.
This is Batch 4 of Spirit of Yorkshire Filey Bay STR Finish, matured initially in ex-bourbon casks and then transferred to STR red wine casks from Rioja before being bottled at 46% without colouring or chill filtration. A gem for English whisky fans and a great starter point for any wine-finished Scotch whisky fans looking to see what the fuss is about.
